# Nearer > A focused productivity app that turns a goal into small steps and shows them one card at a time — for tasks, routines, and flashcards. Nearer is a card-based to-do app built for people overwhelmed by long lists. Instead of displaying every unfinished item at once, Nearer shows a single card. The user completes it, marks it done, and the next card appears automatically — no scanning, no reprioritizing, no decision fatigue. The app supports three list types: tasks (one-time to-do items that archive when completed, except in action plans, which keep finished steps as progress), routines (repeatable habits or checklists with configurable reset schedules), and flashcards (study decks with front/back flip). All three share the same focused card-at-a-time flow. Nearer runs in the browser on phone and desktop and syncs state — including which card you were on — between devices, so no download is required to use it. It can also be added to the home screen on iPhone and Android so it opens like an app: https://nearer.io/guides/add-nearer-to-home-screen. Native iOS and Android apps are in development. ## Key features - **Action plans**: describe a goal and Nearer writes the steps in order, each with how-to detail and a link to the official site when there is one; it asks one to three questions first only when the answer changes the steps. Users can break any step into smaller steps, which open as their own layer so the main list never grows - **Up next**: one card at a time from all of a person's lists, in this order: overdue tasks, tasks due today, today's routine items, then the next step of each action plan. It can be switched off in Settings, and any list can be left out of it - **Focused view**: only the active card is fully visible; adjacent cards are shown as context without taking focus - **List overview**: an optional side panel showing every card in the list, with finished ones checked off and smaller steps folded under their parent; it stays closed until opened - **Automatic progression**: completing a card moves forward without any extra tap or decision - **Custom resets**: routines can reset daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, on completion, or manually - **Spaced repetition**: flashcard decks schedule reviews with FSRS — the algorithm modern Anki uses — behind a two-button Again / Got it grade, with nothing to configure - **Customizable UI**: per-list controls for the progress bar, timer, list color and card order, plus light, dark or system theme - **Card archive**: completed and archived cards are preserved and restorable, not permanently deleted ## Use Nearer inside Claude Nearer has a remote MCP server at https://nearer.io/mcp (streamable HTTP, OAuth sign-in). It is listed in the Claude connector directory and the official MCP Registry as io.nearer/nearer. Once connected, the assistant can save a goal as small steps, show the one step to do now, mark steps done, break a step into smaller steps, and list the person's goals. It works with task lists only and cannot delete anything. Setup: https://nearer.io/guides/connect-nearer-to-claude ## What makes Nearer unusual Most products cover one of these categories. Nearer covers the overlap: a single app holding a task list, repeating routines, and spaced-repetition flashcards, all on the same one-card-at-a-time flow, under one account and one subscription. This matters most to someone revising for something while still running the rest of their life, who would otherwise split that across a flashcard app, a to-do app, and a habit tracker. ## Pricing Nearer has a single paid plan and no free tier. Every account starts with a 7-day free trial that includes the full app — unlimited lists and cards — and no credit card is required to begin it. After the trial, Nearer is $79.99 per year, or $9.99 per month. Lists and cards are retained if the trial lapses without a subscription, and become available again on subscribing. ## Pages - [Home](https://nearer.io): Marketing page with full product description and interactive demo - [Pricing](https://nearer.io/pricing): One plan, 7-day trial with no card, no free tier; what happens when the trial ends - [Simpler Todoist alternative](https://nearer.io/todoist-alternative): Honest Todoist vs Nearer comparison, including who should stay with Todoist - [TickTick alternative](https://nearer.io/ticktick-alternative): Nearer vs TickTick, on feature bundling versus a single view - [Things 3 alternative](https://nearer.io/things-3-alternative): Nearer vs Things 3, on cross-platform access and doing versus planning - [Apple Reminders alternative](https://nearer.io/apple-reminders-alternative): Nearer vs Apple Reminders, on capturing tasks versus finishing them - [Anki alternative](https://nearer.io/anki-alternative): Nearer vs Anki, on studying alongside tasks rather than in a separate app - [Goblin Tools alternative](https://nearer.io/goblin-tools-alternative): Nearer vs Goblin Tools, on writing a breakdown versus working through it one step at a time - [Best Todoist alternatives](https://nearer.io/best-todoist-alternatives): Six apps like Todoist, organised by reason for leaving, with Nearer as one option - [One task at a time apps](https://nearer.io/one-task-at-a-time-app): Ten apps that show a single task, compared by where the task lives — widget, menu bar, enforced rule, focus mode, or browser - [AI task breakdown apps](https://nearer.io/goal-into-small-steps-app): Five apps that break a big task or goal into small steps, from free checklists to one step at a time - [To-do list app for ADHD](https://nearer.io/adhd-to-do-list-app): How Nearer helps when a long list makes you freeze: small AI-written steps, one card at a time, routines that reset - [Simple flashcard app](https://nearer.io/simple-flashcard-app): Spaced repetition (FSRS) behind two buttons; what it deliberately does not do - [Daily routine app](https://nearer.io/daily-routine-app): Routines as lists that reset daily, weekly, monthly, on completion, or by hand - [Checklist app that resets](https://nearer.io/checklist-app-that-resets): Checklists that come back unticked daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, on completion or by hand - [Study and tasks in one app](https://nearer.io/study-and-task-app): How revision, coursework, and daily routines run together in one place - [Why your to-do list feels overwhelming](https://nearer.io/guides/to-do-list-overwhelm): Guide to why long to-do lists create decision fatigue, and five ways to make a list feel finishable - [Guides](https://nearer.io/guides): Friendly guides for when you can’t get started on your to-do list, grouped by how you feel - [Can’t start your to-do list?](https://nearer.io/guides/cant-start-task): Why list items are hard to start, and how to shrink the first step until starting is easy - [Big goal, no idea where to start?](https://nearer.io/guides/big-goal-where-to-start): How to break a big goal into small steps one layer at a time, with a worked example - [Putting off one task for weeks?](https://nearer.io/guides/putting-off-one-task): A ten-minute way to start the one task you keep avoiding - [Fell behind on your to-do list?](https://nearer.io/guides/fell-behind-on-to-do-list): How to restart an overdue to-do list from one item instead of catching up - [Use Nearer in Claude](https://nearer.io/guides/connect-nearer-to-claude): How to connect the Nearer plugin, what to ask it, and how to disconnect - [Install Nearer on your phone](https://nearer.io/guides/add-nearer-to-home-screen): How to add Nearer to an iPhone, Android or computer home screen so it opens like an app - [Privacy Policy](https://nearer.io/privacy): Data collection, storage, and usage practices - [Terms of Service](https://nearer.io/terms): Terms governing use of the app ## Company Made by General Utility LLC.
