A checklist that comes back unticked on the schedule you pick

You tick off your morning checklist today, and tomorrow you need the same list again with nothing ticked. Nearer brings it back for you. You choose when: every day, every week, every month, every year, or as soon as you finish it.

The short version

In Nearer, a checklist that resets is a routine list. Choose when it resets and every item comes back unticked. Daily lists reset the first time you open them on a new day. Weekly ones reset on Monday, monthly ones on the 1st and yearly ones on 1 January. It works in the web browser on any device, and you can install it on your phone like an app.

You pick when each checklist resets, right in the list menu.

Pick when it comes back

Daily

Comes back unticked the first time you open it on a new day, in your local time.

Good for: A morning routine, opening or closing duties, an evening wind-down.

Weekly

Comes back unticked on Monday.

Good for: A weekly review, cleaning, meal planning.

Monthly

Comes back unticked on the 1st of the month.

Good for: Paying bills, a monthly admin sweep, checking subscriptions.

Yearly

Comes back unticked on 1 January.

Good for: Renewals, tax paperwork, a yearly home check.

On completion

Comes back unticked as soon as you tick the last item.

Good for: A packing list, a gym circuit, anything you repeat whenever it comes up.

Never

Stays ticked until you reset it yourself, with Now in the same menu.

Good for: A checklist you are still changing, or one you only use now and then.

Plans change, so you can also reset any checklist straight away: open Reset Routine in the list menu and choose Now. Its schedule stays as it was.

Checklist, recurring task or habit tracker?

These three sound alike. You’ll see the difference on a day you miss.

What comes back

Checklist that resets
The whole list, all unticked at once.
Recurring task
One task, with a new due date.
Habit tracker
A tick box for each habit, each day.

If you miss a day

Checklist that resets
Nothing piles up. It just starts fresh next time.
Recurring task
It sits there overdue until you do it or move it.
Habit tracker
The streak breaks.

Where it shows up

Checklist that resets
In its own list, one item at a time.
Recurring task
Mixed in with your other tasks.
Habit tracker
In a grid or calendar of days.

If your morning is eight small steps that belong together, a checklist that resets fits best. The whole list comes back at once, so tomorrow starts the same way today did. We go into routines in more depth in a daily routine app that resets itself.

One item at a time

Nearer shows one item of the checklist at a time. Tick it and the next one comes up. At seven in the morning, a full list makes it easy to skip a step or two. With one item on screen, you only decide about that one. Your checklists also show up in Up next, alongside anything due today. We cover the same idea in one task at a time apps.

Try it: work through the routine. Finish the last card and the list comes back unticked.

What it doesn’t do

  • · No reminders or notifications, so nothing prompts you to start.
  • · No sharing a checklist with anyone else.
  • · No streak counters or scoring.
  • · It needs an internet connection.

If you need an alarm on each item, a phone checklist app with notifications is the better tool.

Common questions

Does the checklist reset by itself?
Yes. Pick daily, weekly, monthly or yearly and the list comes back unticked on its own. Daily lists reset the first time you open them on a new day, in your local time. Weekly lists reset on Monday, monthly ones on the 1st and yearly ones on 1 January.
Can I reset it early?
Yes. In the list menu, open Reset Routine and choose Now. The checklist comes back unticked straight away and keeps its schedule.
Can I have several checklists on different schedules?
Yes. Each list has its own reset, so a morning checklist can reset every day while a bills checklist resets once a month.
Does it send reminders?
No. Nearer sends no notifications. If you need a nudge to start, set an alarm or a calendar event and open the checklist when it goes off.
Is there a free version?
No free version. Every account gets a 7-day trial of the whole app with no card, then $79.99 per year, or $9.99 per month. That covers checklists, to-do lists and flashcards together.
Does it work on Android and iPhone?
Yes. Nearer works in the web browser on any device. It isn’t in the App Store or Google Play, but you can install it on your home screen in a few taps so it opens like an app. It needs an internet connection.
