Install Nearer on your phone

Nearer works in the web browser on any device. You can also put it on your phone’s home screen, so it opens with one tap, full screen, like any other app. It takes about a minute.

You won’t find it in the App Store or Google Play. You add it straight from the browser instead, and you don’t download anything.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. 1Open nearer.io in Safari.
  2. 2Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up. On newer iPhones you may need to tap ••• first.
  3. 3Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. 4If you see Open as Web App, leave it switched on. Then tap Add.

Then open Nearer from the new icon and sign in with Google, GitHub or Microsoft. On an iPhone, the home screen version keeps its own sign-in, and an email sign-in link opens in Safari instead.

On an Android phone

  1. 1Open nearer.io in Chrome.
  2. 2Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
  3. 3Tap Add to home screen. On some phones it says Install app.
  4. 4Tap Install.

Using Samsung Internet? Tap the menu, then Add page to, then Home screen.

On a computer

  • · In Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or find Install in the browser’s menu.
  • · On a Mac in Safari, choose File, then Add to Dock.

Nearer then opens in its own window, and you can pin it to your taskbar or Dock. A browser tab works the same way, if you prefer that.

What changes once it’s installed

Nearer sits on your home screen with the rest of your apps.

You get an icon, and Nearer opens full screen without the browser’s address bar. Everything else stays the same: your lists, your progress and your settings all come from your account. It still needs an internet connection. If you use Claude, you can use Nearer there too.

Common questions

Is there a Nearer app in the App Store or Google Play?
No. Nearer works in the web browser on any device. Adding it to your home screen gives you an icon that opens it full screen, without the browser’s address bar, so it looks and feels like an app.
Do I have to sign in again?
On an iPhone, usually yes, once. The home screen version keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari. Sign in with Google, GitHub or Microsoft from inside it. An email sign-in link opens in Safari instead, which signs Safari in rather than the home screen version.
Will my lists be the same on my phone and my computer?
Yes. Everything lives in your account, so your lists, and the card you were on, are the same wherever you open Nearer.
Does it work offline?
No. Nearer needs an internet connection, on your home screen or in the browser.
How do I remove it?
Press and hold the icon, then choose Remove App or Uninstall, the same as any other app. Your account and lists stay as they are.
